PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • June 1998-present Information Services Librarian; University of Southern Mississippi. Responsibilities include expanding instructional program to include course-related instruction for students and faculty instructional workshops. Work with General Studies and English departments to include library instruction in basic freshmen courses. Provide traditional reference services to faculty, students and campus community including instruction, reference desk duty, and collection development. Library liaison with Educational Leadership/Research and Technology Education departments. Library liaison for the university’s Office for Disability Accommodation and individual instructor for students with disabilities.

  • Jan. 1997 - June 1998 Reference Librarian/Instructor; Southeastern Louisiana University. Responsibilities included library instruction in "for-credit" setting; bibliographic instruction in "one-shot"sessions; traditional reference services to faculty, students, and community.

  • Jan. 1997 - Dec. 1997 Graduate Assistant; School of Library and Information Science, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, La. Responsibilities included bibliographic searching and data collection for research; web searching; prep work for lectures and classroom activities. Special projects include preparation of materials, workbooks, and classrooms for a week-long workshop on multi-cultural children's literature; compiled concluding data for follow-up report.

  • Jan. 1995 - Dec. 1996 Graduate Teaching Fellowship; Sims Memorial Library, Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, La. Taught 'for-credit' Library Science courses. Prepared lesson plans and assignments, graded and evaluated class work, and assigned student grades. In addition to teaching responsibilities, provided traditional reference services, including single session, subject-specific bibliographic instruction classes.

  • 1992 - 1994 Behavior Shaping Specialist; Developmental NeuroPsychiatric Unit (DNP), Southeast Hospital, Mandeville, La. Observed and recorded specified behaviors; prepared reports and recommendations for case conference reviews.

  • 1985 - 1992 Options, Inc./Tangipahoa Association for Retarded Citizens Director of Residential Services. Responsibilities included budget formation and tracking; staff development and training; interviewing and hiring of professional and non-professional staff; parent and client counseling; committee work. Special projects included development and implementation of a monthly orientation and training program for staff; grant-writing and implementation; Policy and Procedure Manual writing.

  • Consultant for Evergreen, Inc. Responsibilities included application- writing, grant-writing, hiring, training, and budget allocation. Developed the initial phase of a supported employment center for handicapped individuals in Lake Charles.

  • Director of Vocational Services. Responsibilities included grant- writing; program re-organization; hiring; presentations; committee work; public relations work; counseling. Special projects included conversion of a sheltered workshop program to a supported employment service.

  • Winner of the University’s Excellency in Librarianship Award 2001.

  • Winner of the University Libraries’ HEADWAE Award for the year 2000.
