Information Literacy for Graduate Students and Adult Students: 
Life Long Learning

Graduate students and adult students are populations of "special" students.  Their Information Literacy needs are somewhat different from those of traditional undergraduates.  This presentation will discuss some of those needs which are specific to these two groups and how those needs are addressed at the University of Rhode Island.

Joanna M. Burkhardt is Associate Professor and Head Librarian at the University of Rhode Island-Providence Campus. At URI she is a member of the Dean's Council. She is a member of the URI Libraries Management Team. She is an active member of the American Library Association, the Association of College and Research Libraries, and the Rhode Island Library Association. She is Chair of the URI Libraries Faculty Development Committee and Chair of the URI Libraries Curriculum Committee. She represents URI on a number of the Rhode Island Higher Education Library Information Network (HELIN) Consortium Committees. Ms. Burkhardt is one of the authors of the URI Master Plan for Information Literacy. She played a major role in the creation of the Information Literacy credit courses now offered at URI, and is a continuing member of the implementation team for the Master Plan. Ms. Burkhardt coordinates the Information Literacy program at the URI-Providence Campus and teaches sections of URI's 3-credit Information Literacy course.

Ms. Burkhardt has an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in
Anthropology and the MLS from the University of Rhode Island.
