Institute Blog
What is a blog? There are several definitions, but mostly, it's a chronologically ordered journal with links. In this case, we're using a blog to present news about open access and about the Institute. We hope you'll read it, and even take advantage of our Atom feed, to get its news delivered to your desktop. Not up on feeds and RSS? Here's a nice overview.
Blog Feature
This is a good feature to publicize.

NIH News
This news about the NIH is interesting. Considering that the Institute keynote speaker, Dr. Varmus, is a former head of the NIH, I'd like to hear what he has to say about this.

NIH Cancels Press Conference Announcing New Open Access Policies
Hmmm. The National Institutes of Health was going to announce a new policy, allowing free access to tax-payer funded medical research.
The press conference announcing that policy has been cancelled.
According to Library Journal, the cancellation might have to do with the Senate confirmation hearings of Michael Leavitt, who would oversee the NIH if confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Peter Suber, a research professor from Earlham College, and a huge open access advocate, has more about the NIH policies and their history here: http://www.earlham.edu/~peters/fos/nihfaq.htm.
