Institute 2005 Program
The LACUNY Institute 2005, "Scholarly Publishing and Open Access: Payers and Players" will actively engage its audience in a major debate galvanizing academia today. The opening keynote speakers, Harold Varmus and Martin Blume, take on the issue of who should pay to give access to research, the researcher, the reader or someone else? The morning panel, Institutional Repositories in Higher Education, reveals a number of points of view and models for ways to disseminate research and information that evolve in the university. An afternoon of eight different breakout sessions leads the audience into the specialized arenas of such areas as grey literature, digitization, and citation analysis as they take their place in the open access debate.
