CUNY Image Sharing

Ching-Jung Chen (City), Miriam Deutsch (Brooklyn), Steve Kowalik (Hunter), and Eileen Krest (Queens) agreed in December 2007 to use ARTstor’s hosting services to share their libraries’ digitized images.  After this initial meeting, the group developed metadata and digitizing standards.  The hosting service, free to all ARTstor subscribers, loads the images onto ARTstor’s server, making them available to all CUNY libraries with ARTstor.  Sharing digitized images eliminates duplication, saves money and staff time, and allows campuses to focus on building a larger image database for CUNY.  Sharing local images adheres to fair-use guidelines since campus authentication is needed to access ARTstor.  CUNY campuses subscribing to ARTstor are listed here.
